This isn’t new, agents that make payments has been a ‘thing’ for a long time, but it has evolved. It’s evolution isinteresting to watch as the market for it grows. After all, is was only a few days ago that OpenAI went big with a for-profit division.
The structure varies from platform to platform. Gemini, for example, has Agents Payment Protocol (AP2), and OpenAI has Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP). They are both well supported, and differ from each other.
What interests me is the structure: how vendors are selected, fees charged, and whether vendors can opt out from working with an LLM that might have a fee.
